Abstract

This study aims to reveal the ‘Effectiveness of Tourism Departments in Raising Awareness about Tourism of the Handicapped among Students: To this aim, sample group was composed of 312 students. The researcher employed the descriptive analytical methodology. The study concluded the findings to follow. A correlation was found between all topics of the scale of Effectiveness of Tourism Departments on one hand and all topics of the scale of Students’ Awareness about Tourism of the Handicapped in both Saudi and Egyptian universities. However, a disparity in effectiveness of tourism departments was identified, where the Egyptian universities achieved higher grade at all topics of the scale, while the Saudi counterparts achieved an average level at all topics except for a number of teaching staff as it was ranked high. No discrepancies were figured out in terms of students’ awareness about tourism of the handicapped (i.e., knowledge and skills) between Saudi and Egyptian universities as both were ranked at intermediate level. Nonetheless, the level of the topic ‘Values’ ranked high for Egyptian universities. Findings further revealed that the most effective topic at the scale of Effectiveness of Tourism Departments was that of ‘Academic Curriculums’ when it comes to awareness of students about tourism of the handicapped at the Saudi Universities, where the topic ‘Students Activities or Practicum’ was the most effective topic at the Egyptian counterparts. The topic ‘Members of Teaching Staff’ came last among all members of the sample group at both Saudi and Egyptian universities.
